Lori's Thoughts:

Jabez asked God to make him more than what his parents made him out to be - a pain.  Enlarging his territory could mean literally giving him more land or dominion.  Or, it could mean, give me more than what this world has offered me; make me more than what I have been allotted.  I (as in Lori) was born to a criminal.  God made me more than a victim and more than a criminal's child.

See, God answers prayers in the affirmative.  Ask Him to make you how He envisions you - more than what the world has to offer.

The Israelites were promised land to settle in, when God delivered them out of Egypt.  This is the account of God making good on His promise to the tribe of Simeon.  They needed to destroy evil first, before they settled in.  This is how things worked before Christ came to save us from sin and its punishment.
