The Division of Priests
Verses 1-19
Aaron -> Nadab*, Abihu*, Eleazar*, Ithamar*: the first two died before Aaron did, and they had no sons. Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests.
King David was aided by Zadok, a descendant of Eleazar, and Ahimelech, a descendant of Ithamar. David separated the priests into divisions for their appointed order of ministering. There were 16 heads of the families of Eleazar and 8 heads of the families of Ithamar. Lots were cast for the fair division of the priests, because there were officials of the sanctuary and officials of God among both groups.
Shemaiah son of Nethanel, the Levite, was the scribe. He recorded the priests' names, in the presence of the king and his officials: Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the heads of the families of the Levite priests. They cast lots for Eleazar, then Ithamar:
1st lot - Jehoiarib 13th - Huppah
2nd - Jedaiah 14th - Jeshebeab
3rd - Harim 15th - Bilgah
4th - Seorim 16th - Immer
5th - Malkijah 17th - Hezir
6th - Mijamin (sounds Jamaican) 18th - Happizzez (my favorite name)
7th - Hakkoz 19th - Pethaniah
8th - Abijah 20th - Jehezkel
9th - Jeshua 21st - Jakin
10th - Shecaniah 22nd - Gamul
11th - Eliashib 23rd - Delaiah
12th - Jakim 24th - Maaziah
This is the appointed order of ministering when the priests enter the Lord's temple, according to the regulations appointed by Aaron, as God had commanded him.

Lori's Thoughts:
Imagine being told that you will be chosen for a specific work for God.
In my life, I've seen how important it is to everyone to be chosen for something. To feel unique, to be able to do that thing that no one else can. We want to be noticed for our physical or artistic abilities in a game or performance. We want to be chosen for our intellect or beauty as valedictorian or prom royalty. I want to be chosen as a wife.
Despite our selfish desires to matter, to be significant, God tells us that if we humble ourselves in service to Him, He will choose us for work, positions of authority, and opportunities for adventure greater than we could have imagined for ourselves.
"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up." (James 4:10)
God wants you, with your unique abilities to serve Him. Do that, and you will be showered with love, joy, true friendships... These are a few of the things you'll receive if you let Him use you for His will.
"...the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." (Galatians 5:22-23a)
