I Chronicles 25 (NIV)

Summary:

The Singers
Verses 1-31

David and the army commanders set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun for the ministry of prophesying, accompanied by harps, lyres, and cymbals.  These are the men who performed this service:
- sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, Asarelah; supervised by Asaph, who prophesied under the king's supervision
-sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, Mattithiah; supervised by Jeduthun, who prophesied, using the harp to thank and praise the Lord
-sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shubael, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-Ezer (my 2nd favorite name), Joshbekashah (my favorite name), Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth; Heman, the king's seer, was given 14 sons and 3 daughters, as God had promised, to exalt the Lord

All of them were under their father's supervision for the music of the Lord's temple, with cymbals, lyres, and harps, to minister at God's house.  The fathers were all under David's supervision.  They all numbered 288 men, trained and skilled in music for the Lord.

The young and old, teacher and student, all cast lots for their duties.  This is the order that the lots fell, for each man, his sons, and relatives:

1st - Joseph (son of Asaph)                     13th - Shubael
2nd - Gedaliah                                        14th - Mattithiah
3rd - Zaccur                                            15th - Jerimoth
4th - Izri (aka Zeri)                                  16th - Hananiah
5th - Nethaniah                                        17th - Joshbekashah
6th - Bukkiah                                          18th - Hanani
7th - Jesarelah                                         19th - Mallothi
8th - Jeshaiah                                          20th - Eliathah
9th - Mattaniah                                       21st - Hothir
10th - Shimei                                          22nd - Giddalti
11th - Azarel (aka Uzziel)                        23rd - Mahazioth
12th - Hashabiah                                     24th - Romamti-Ezer

Lori's Thoughts:

If the army commanders were in charge of appointing the prophets/musicians, imagine how organized and professional they must have been.  A military orchestra - they'd probably win competitions.  Firstly, because of great leadership.  Secondly, because there is no greater joy than that which comes from loving and being loved by God.  It's hard to contain radiating joy.  I don't feel it 24/7.  Most of the time, I'm just peaceful.  But, I've definitely burst with joy from the knowledge that I am loved unconditionally, so much that I must praise Him aloud!

I know I enjoy receiving compliments.  God does too.  Tell Him what you like about Him.  I guarantee you'll feel His appreciation shining down on you.
